Google AdWords Certification Fundamentals Exam – update

As an internet marketing analyst or consultant looking for more work or a new employer it’s important to differentiate yourself and boost your own personal “quality score” and that’s where I have decided to earn some extra accreditation from a trusted name like Google.  After studying for some time I’m happy to report that the fundamentals portion of the Google AdWords certification process wasn’t so hard.  I studied about one third of the printout and decided to just go for it today and passed with a 98.  The next step is the advanced paid search exam which is just as long with 120 questions and hopefully just as difficult.  Basically if you have in depth experience with an AdWords account for a year or so you shouldn’t have much trouble going through the study material to cover topics such as account access levels, quality score, and best practices. I know of many internet marketing analysts in the Dallas area who haven’t taken the time to get any certifications like this so it’s a great and inexpensive way to differentiate from the competition.

AdWords Certification

So a few days ago I decided to take on the AdWords Certification. I just about paid the $50 to take the fundamentals portion right then and there thinking it would be a piece of cake but my analyst sense got a hold of me and said “better see what it covers” first. Well let me tell ya, the study material for the fundamentals portion is quite daunting. I printed it out at FedEx/Kinko’s and had the 119 page document spiral-bound for about $12 after applying a 30% off promo code from RetailMeNot.com. That’s right 119 pages covering the fundamentals portion of the AdWords certification. A lot of the material repeats itself like a technical help manual should so the trouble is sifting through and picking out the bits and pieces they might ask questions about. I’ve been looking it over off and on for a few days now. I’m about ready to just take the test and hope that I have enough knowledge from daily use to cover the exam. I used to consider the certification as unnecessary and after combing through the many sections of the study material I have a new found respect for anyone who has taken the time to go through the certification process. I can honestly say that I have a deeper understanding of certain elements than I had before, and I haven’t even taken the test yet.  If you’re a marketing analyst or the likes you should take the time to get the AdWords certification.
